  • Do Work-at-Home Moms really get Maternity Leave?

Do Work-at-Home Moms get Maternity Leave? (Photo)If I was working in corporate America or any job outside the home, the decision would be a simple one. Yep, I’m going to take 12 weeks off and all I’m going to do is take care of my baby. I need the time to recuperate from delivery and need to get the baby on a schedule so that we all will be ready to go  when the times comes to head back to work.

This will not be the case for me when my third child comes along. When my son was born, I had been running my business on my own for about seven months and it was still in the growth stages. In October (he was born at the end of November), I started planning on what I was going to do when he arrived. Was I going to take a break? Could I really go on maternity leave for an extended period of time? Did I really want to step away from all the hard work that I had put in for someone else to help me during this time?

I truly love my job and would not change anything for the world. The great thing about being a work at home mom is that I am able to create my own hours and live on my own schedule. Going on maternity leave as a sole business owner is hard to do but if you run your business out of your home and do not have a brick and mortar then it is doable.
