When Should You Outsource Help?

When Should You Outsource? (Photo)"Do you feel the need to be a superwoman…?"

Do you feel the need to be a superwoman or a Jane of all Trades? It’s great to be able to multitask but you don’t want to overdo yourself or stretch yourself too thin. Most women have to balance multiple things in their lives and there are ways to have a successful business without having to do it all. If you are a woman who is trying to run a profitable business by doing it all, you could actually be jeopardizing your success in the long run.

In this economy, the natural thing to want to do is to be the business owner, the marketing rep, the accountant, the housekeeper, the mom and more, so that you can spend your money where it really matters. But let’s think about this, if you have to train yourself all about financials or you have to spend hours upon hours on social media marketing your business then when do you have time to create new products or perfect the ones that you already have? The learning curve that is needed to do your payroll and taxes could be put to better use somewhere else.

Here are a list of services that I suggest outsourcing to better your business and to allow time to focus on aspects that you excel in. I would rather pay money to an expert in their field, and have them handle the projects that I’m not as adept at, than wasting my precious man-hours learning the application myself.

  • Accounting
  • Graphic Design
  • Website Programming
  • Advertising/ Marketing (Hiring a Social Media Manager)
  • In House Cleaning Service
  • Part Time Child Care
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Sales
  • Packaging

These are just a few examples of people that are great at their jobs and want to help your business succeed by doing their jobs for you. If you are an entrepreneur at heart then you are always coming up with new products or services for your business and this is where your focus needs to be. Whenever you are coming up with something innovative then it is imperative to outsource your weaknesses and continue to focus on your strengths.

The best way to figure out what you need to outsource is make a list of tasks that you hate or that you feel are your biggest weaknesses and those are the first things to hire an outside person to do. In the immediate future, it might make you nervous to be spending all this money for tasks that you could learn yourself, but think about the long term success of your company.

Remember the mantra, you have to spend money to make money!

  1. Hi Abbey,

You nailed it with the “you have to spend money to make money”..too often new entrepreneurs and business owners feel like they have to do everything. Rather we should focus on working “on our business” and not always in it.

    Thanks!
    Sandy
