5 Reasons to Fall in Love with Public Speaking (photo)With Valentine’s Day coming up, we turn our attention to matters of the heart. As most of you who read my column on a regular basis must know by now, one of the great passions of my life is public speaking. Not only because it gives you the ability to express yourself, but also because of its transformative powers.

Here are five reasons that public speaking can change your life and improve the success of your business:

1. Gets you out of your comfort zone.

To get out of your comfort zone you must action and force yourself to go beyond the boundaries of what you would normally do. This by its very nature is scary. Don’t let your fear of public speaking hold you back from the potential success it may bring.

2. Increases your visibility in the marketplace.

This is one of the biggest benefits public speaking can bring and yet so few people realize it. Visibility is a hard thing for many business people to embrace because of the attention it brings. If you want to stand out from the others in your industry, then public speaking is the way to do it.

3. Builds your confidence.

I know I’ve said it time and time again; confidence is at the heart of anything great that you do. Public speaking has the ability to build your confidence in leaps and bounds. Once you discover the confidence within yourself through public speaking, you’ll see how it transforms every aspect of your life.

4. Acts as a creative outlet.

Public speaking is as much an art as a science. Just watch any great live theatrical performance, such as a Shakespearean monologue, and you’ll see that. If you allow public speaking to be part of your creative pallet, it will help transform your business into a masterpiece.

5. It’s a great marketing tool.

If you’re like me and are passionate about what you do, then you will want to share it with the world. What better way to do that then to create a keynote speech, or run a seminar or workshop about it. Many of my professional clients such as mortgage brokers, financial planners and lawyers are running seminars and workshops (with my help of course) for the very first time to great success. Education is one of the best ways to promote your business.

So whether you love Valentine’s Day, or think it’s another over-commercialized holiday, we can at least agree that doing what you love is one of life’s greatest gifts. This year why not take you business to the next level, by harnessing the power with public speaking.
