10 MORE Conversation Starters for Your Facebook Page (Photo)In my previous post, 10 Conversation Starters for Your Facebook Page, I introduced several ideas to help you get your Facebook audience engaged and talking. In this post, I give you reasons why you would want to! I've also included another 10 (plus 1) conversation starters. Enjoy!

First some Statistics showing why it's important to get your audience engaged:

People on Facebook

  • More than 800 million active users
  • More than 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day

Activity on Facebook

  • More than 900 million objects that people interact with (pages, groups, events and community pages
  • Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events

Mobile

  • More than 350 million active users currently access Facebook through their mobile devices

Savvy business owners are now including Facebook as part of their marketing plan but the downside is that fans are being inundated with offers, promotions and sales tactics from these very owners.

How do you get YOUR message heard above the ‘noise’ coming from these Facebook pages?

As a business owner, the secret to succeeding on Facebook is to observe the 80/20 rule.

  • 80% of your status updates should offer no-strings-attached value
  • Offer/sell products or services the other 20% of the time

To attract and convert your fans into customers, focus your posts and status updates on creating relationships through conversations. As with any business, once you’ve developed that rapport and built a solid relationship, your Facebook fans will be more receptive to what you are offering/selling in future promotions.

Here are 10 MORE Facebook Conversation Starters

1. Ask them what info they need – What’s your burning question for the day about (insert topic).

2. Give them reasons to share – You’re the best and to show our ‘love’, here’s your link to a complimentary ebook. Yes, you can share! (insert link)

3. Share quotes related to your business“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw

4. Leverage the celebrity factor – Here’s our Founder, Cathy Kuzel with Trevor Linden at the National Speakers Bureau event last week. Definite ‘handsome’ factor!

5. Ask them to submit a photo related to your subject matter – Have you had your picture taken with a celebrity? Please share and post it on our wall.

6. Give a ‘heads up’ on upcoming events/announcements – FOR YOUR EYES ONLY! Facebook fans, stay tuned – tomorrow we’ll have news just for you!

7. Share a story about the history of your product/business – The concept for our re-usable gift bags started in 2004 when . . .

8. Share events – For our fans in the garment industry, you just might want to attend the XYZ Fashion Show being held on . . .

9. Share your values and beliefs – This December 1st, we join the global community in observing World Aids Day to raise awareness of AIDS and HIV.

10. Express Gratitude – It’s because of YOU that we’ve reached 10,000 fans. You’re the best!

And, as promised, here's one more bonus conversation starter:

11. Have Fun with Contests – The first five people to find our previous post about (insert topic), tag it and share it wins coffee on us!

The key to leveraging Facebook as a marketing tool is to keep in mind that “hard sales” (ie: promotion after promotion after promotion. . .) just doesn’t work.
