For better or for worse, people usually want to learn more when they discover how their closet and clothes can affect them.

The rising popularity of Feng Shui has been extraordinary. Did you know that there are over 1,000 Feng Shui consultants in California and the popularity of Feng Shui in Canada is on the rise? Feng Shui is the art of balancing and harmonizing the flow of energy to create beneficial effects in our lives.

People get excited about Feng Shui, but they don’t realize that they need to clear the clutter first. Hanging a mirror in your closet to attract more wealth is good, but not if it is mirroring clutter as it will double your problems! It is vital to have a good flow of life force energy in your closet. Feng Shui principles teach ways to improve energy flow and clearing clutter. In your closet, for example, you will be able to lift that stuck energy and experience dramatic results.

Most of our closets are filled with clutter. This is negative energy. Clutter is like having problems hanging over you – waiting to be dealt with. It restricts us from thinking clearly and freshly. If it’s the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning, you will tend to wake up sluggishly. Clutter stashed higher than eye level will have an oppressive effect and may induce headaches.

Take a look at your closet and really ask yourself, “Do I really need all this stuff or am I just hanging on to it out of guilt?” If the answer is the latter and you don’t love the item(s), then it’s time to let go (you can donate clothes to charity or sell them in a consignment store). These items are holding your life back in the past and you can’t move forward. They will make you feel tired, lethargic, and depressed. On the other hand, keeping the things you love creates positive energy and opens up new opportunities in your life.

Keeping your closet clean will allow the energy to move more smoothly and harmoniously around the space. Remember that Feng Shui knows no bounds. Even though your stuff may be hidden in your closet and you don’t see it all the time, it is still part of your space. Your clo

set holds negative energy when filled with stuff.

Most people wear about 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time. If you have any doubt, take this test for a month. Each time you wear something and clean it, hang it at one end of your wardrobe. At the end of the month, you will find you are wearing the same clothes most of the time.

Separate the clothes you love to wear from those you don’t. This will help when trying to clean your wardrobe and dump the excess. Be clear on your criteria for whether something stays or goes though. For example, observe the colors. Do they uplift and enhance your energy? This alone will likely help you sift through the majority of your clothes.

In the same way we decorate the walls of our homes, we choose colors, textures and fabric designs that reflect our own energy vibrations. People go through color phases. Next, rank items based on feel. If you don’t like the material, shape, or anything else about it, let it go. You owe it to yourself to create a collection of outfits you absolutely love.

Make a decision to never buy anything that isn’t quite what you want because you know it will end up in the excess pile. Resolve to buy clothes that you love and look great, even if they cost a bit more. Get a friend to help you choose styles and colors. If you look good and feel good, you’ll raise your energy and attract prosperity. Some people keep things they haven’t worn in over 20 years. If you haven’t worn it in the last two or three years, then let it go.

Comfort shopping is one sure way to end up with clothes you will never wear. The trick is to never go shopping when you feel emotionally out of sorts.

Some people hang on to clothes that are too small because they’re planning to lose weight so they can wear them again. Life rarely happens this way. Instead, find something that makes you look and feel really good exactly as you are now. What will happen? You’ll lose weight. Love yourself exactly as you are, instead of waiting until you lose weight.

In addition, clothes in need fixing or a new zipper hold negative energy. Every time you look at them, they remind you of not having time to fix them. This is an energy drain. Everything you own is subconsciously connected to your energy. This is considered a lack of respect and care for yourself. If you don’t intend to fix something or don’t love it enough to keep it, let it go. Someone else may love it. What about clothes in need of constant ironing if you hate ironing? Launder and iron them for the last time, and consign or donate them.

Don’t put up with second best. When you nourish yourself with the best clothes, you’ll attract the best in other areas of your life too. If you are just getting by with the clothes you have, love them and be grateful. When resources become available, replace these clothes to feel even more wonderful. Most people are surprised how quickly this becomes possible once they set their mind to it. Remember to live with what you love!
