THE REVIEW:

Glamheiress Kids is an online boutique offering glitter/glam clothing and accessories for children. There are some items for adults, teens and even boys, but most of the things are girly-girl kids and can fulfill the dreams of any little princess who loves to dress up.

A few of the many, many items you'll find on their site are: tutus, hair clips, bracelets, bags, fashion scarves, shirts, head wear (feathers, tiaras, etc) and baby wear, like these cutie-pie lace bloomers that can fit over diapers. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! There are also cool things like bracelet pens, printed ties, and, well, lots more.

Glamheiress Kids' motto is: "Live the Glam Life" and their website promises "Accessories and Bling for your sweet little thing! Every Princess and Bad Boy's Dream Shop!"

It's run by Shanna Rimer and Jen Okell, best friends since high school who grew up to become teachers, mothers (with four children between them) and new entrepreneurs. They started their business in November 2010 and in less than a year, their products are being sold in over 70 stores in Toronto, Richmond Hill, Montreal, Bolton, Woodbridge, Thornhill, Markham, Niagara Falls, and surrounding areas.

Glamheiress Kids sent me a package filled with accessories that I turned into two great outfits. And not just any ol' outfits. I felt smashing! The items I received from them were: a pink purse with brown polka dots; a one-size fits all white watch; shoe jewels that look like glittery diamonds; a white summer scarf printed with peace symbols; and several flower hair clips of different colours and styles.

Cathy loves her accessories from Glamheiress Kids (Photo: Chris Meier)The first outfit I put together for the beach (which you can see in the photo at left) includes a white flower in my hair, along with the white scarf and watch, that matched very nicely with things I already owned, like my white eyeglasses and shoes. I also clipped a bright pink flower to the purse, and put the shoe jewels on my sandals. I love that the shoe jewels are also peace symbols and matches the scarf. (Love the shoe jewels? They also have heart-shaped ones!) Now, I did feel a bit shy about putting a flower in my hair at first due to my *ahem* age, but I've seen a few adults in my area wearing flowers this summer so…am I fashion-questionable or an early trend adopter? Answer: who cares? I like how fun and girly I feel when I'm wearing it, so I'm going to keep doing it (At least when I'm heading to the beach!)

Another outfit I wore to a business networking meeting includes ALL the same accessories, but instead of putting a flower in my hair, I used three flowers of complementary colours (pink, peach and white) to decorate the purse. I also wore a short-sleeved white shirt and white-and-orange flower-print skirt. Everything matched nicely, I felt very summery and chic!

The watch is pretty cool because it's "one size fits all." The strap contains a metal band inside that curls around your wrist, and to adjust it, all you do is let the ends overlap as much as needed. I love the scarf! It not only makes me feel fashionable, it's also useful. It can be used to protect yourself from burning in the sun, or give you a litle extra warmth — like a shawl — if the sun goes away.

I've been using the purse almost every day since I got it. And here's a secret: it's actually a lunch bag! Could you guess by looking at the photo? I didn't know until I opened it up and peeked inside. There's a transparent plastic layer (so you can spill anything and clean-up is a breeze) and under that is a silver thermal layer to help keep things cool or warm, depending on what you put in there. I have a mini 7-inch laptop which fits nicely. Now I can take it with me and know it's protected from sudden temperature changes when I'm out and about, especially in the winter. It has three small pockets on the outside, great for cell phones and wallets. I clip the flowers to the pockets so I can coordinate with whatever I'm wearing.

Oh, those flowers! I'm looking for ways to use them on everything! I added one to my favourite hat, another is on my beach bag. Did I mention I'm a gardener? I've got a weakness for anything flowery AND anything that glitters. GlamHeiress flowers fulfill both my addictions! The centre of each flower comes with a glittery bauble that catches the sun. Some have extra beads or sequins on the petals (looking reminiscent of water droplets) and some have pearly beads instead of glitter-gems (a.k.a rhinestones).

As with any product with small parts, I'd suggest that parents examine everything before giving it to a toddler. Make sure the jewels are secure. When I first opened the package, I decided to test how durable the flowers were. I had to give a solid tug to get one of the pearl bead centres to come off (which I repaired easily with a glue gun) and in the several weeks I've been using the items to decorate my purses, I'm pleased to report that nothing has come off on its own.
