THE REVIEW:

A package arrived the other day from Britain. When I opened it, I saw a square fabric cover made of blue and green felt. It was decorated on the front with a glittery gold star and tied up with blue yarn. Inside this fuzzy package was a book, which slid out of the felt bookcover easily. Appropriately, the book is called The Fuzzy Fella and is one of five children's books by Natascha Taylor, a Canadian-born writer/illustrator who currently lives in London, England with her daughter Phoenix. The front of the book promises "a very, very true story for little kids, big kids, grown up who still know how to be kids and especially those grown ups who need to remember how to grow down."
Adults and older children will find it a fun and humorous story to read aloud, as there are places in the story where you can play with your delivery, whispering or yelling as the story unfolds. Children will like it because the story is told in rhyme and what small child doesn't love rhyme? It's like listening to words playing together!

The illustration is colourful and free-flowing, similar to how children draw, expressing ideas visually without getting caught up in details.

What I really like about this book is that it's tactile. The title promises something by containing the word "fuzzy" and the reusable felt bookcover delivers on that promise. In addition, the text on the front cover is raised so very small children will enjoy running their fingers along it to explore the difference between the smooth and raised areas.

I won't tell you who the Fuzzy Fella is (you'll find out at the end of the story) but I can tell you is that he can be as BIG as a house, or as *small* as a mouse, and can be everywhere or nowhere, depending on the moment.
