It seems we have so much going on in our lives that some of us don’t make the time to stop and check our happiness gauge. I had a client once who told me she was unhappy for 17 years but had been too busy to notice.

Is this true for you? When was the last time you asked yourself if you were happy? And I don’t mean just a little bit happy or kinda sorta happy; I mean really happy? The thing is, a big part of our life’s purpose is to be happy. Nobody is doomed to a life of unhappiness.

7 obvious signs that you are living a happy life:

1.  You wake up each morning with purpose.

Happy people know what they’re going to do during the day, they honor their schedules and they feel fulfilled when they go to bed at night.

2.  You are surrounded with happy people.

When people are happy they tend to gravitate towards other happy people. This isn’t always a conscious act it’s just a natural occurrence. Even more, when people are happy, it has a ripple effect on those they are closest to.

3.  You make self-supporting choices.

Happy people make lifestyle choices that reflect their happiness. They take good care of themselves by eating wholesome foods and keeping active. Happy people make time for themselves so they can do things they enjoy and they also spend quality time with the people they love.

4.  You are grateful.

Happy people are thankful for their lives. When people are happy they tend to notice all the wonderful things going in their life. A happy person appreciates who they are, what they do and what they have.

5.  Your happiness multiplies.

When people are happy the result is usually more happiness. Positive energy attracts more positive energy, this is why when people are happy they begin to notice how more often than not, things fall into place for them.

6.  You laugh often.

When people are happy they will find it is so much easier to laugh at life. They don’t take things so seriously and they know their mistakes and errors are just learning curves that will allow them to become even happier.

7.  Your body is healthy.

When people are happy it has a huge effect on their health. The body often speaks for the mind so when a person is happy they will notice they are sick a lot less often.

Do you recognize any of these in your life? If yes, celebrate your happiness. If not, don’t fret. Happiness isn’t just for the selected few.

Each one of us has the ability to be really happy. Ask yourself, am I ready to choose happiness in my life? The thing is, happiness is merely an alignment with our life’s purposes. If you want to be happy discover why you’re here and what you’re meant to do. I realize this can appear daunting but there is a lot of support out there to help you discover these things.

While we might think the solution is to change our whole entire life or to buy more things, authentic happiness is really only derived from knowing our life’s purposes and fulfilling those purposes.

Journal assignment:

Set the timer for ten minutes and list all the things that make you happy. Then check over the list and ask yourself, what haven't you done in awhile that you really enjoy? Make a date with yourself to do it! For example, maybe you love dancing, but you've been too busy to go out. Call up a few friends and make a 'night out' happen! Or, maybe you enjoy quiet, creative activities. Find a way to squeeze creative time into your schedule by putting it into your daytimer, or getting up 30 minutes earlier in the mornings to do it. Be good to yourself!
